- I decided to give a hiking quilt a try for summer and warmer weather hiking since I was always opening up my mummy bags. It served fine here in Virginia in the middle of summer, but it might have been too light for our Canadian Rockies trip in August. I had to make it as close to a mummy bag as possible to stay warm at night. In that regards, I wish I had gotten the long version so I could pull it over my head without my foot going through the bottom. I also felt like the down would clump on the sides of the begs leaving the top less insulated. I wore my fleece or down jacket as an extra layer on a couple of nights. Despite all that, I did stay warm enough so I don’t have much to complain about. I’ve only used it for about a month, so I’ll update as I use this more in the future as this will be my default bag for a while.
